BCITO is a Business Division of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology. Te Pūkenga is the Crown entity established to unite Industry Training Organisations, Institutes of Technology, and Polytechnics (ITPs) around the country into a unified national network as part of the Government’s Reform of Vocation Education.

On 7 December 2023, the new Government announced its intention to disestablish Te Pūkenga. The Tertiary Education and Skills Minister confirmed that the Government no longer wanted a centralised approach, instead restoring regional decision-making institutions.

We are currently working through the details of the Government’s expectations and are committed to ensuring that changes do not negatively impact the delivery of high-quality vocational education and training.
